Non-Turkey Things to do on Thanksgiving Day

Wednesday November 21, 2007
If your family is not in the area or you're not that into turkey--or even if you just want to get out of the house for a while after all that food--there are things to do on Thanksgiving Day. The weather is supposed to be partly cloudy with the temperature staying between 40 degrees Fahrenheit and the low 50s, so grab a jacket before you go out.
  • The Dallas Zoo is open from 9am to 4pm. DART's Red Line takes you straight to the Dallas Zoo station and drops you off across the street. Admission is $8.75 for ages 12-64, $5.75 for ages 3-11, $5 for ages 65 and up, and free for two and under.
  • The Fort Worth Zoo is also open, although with shorter hours--noon to 4pm. Admission is $10.50 for ages 13-64, $8 for ages 3-12, $7 for ages 65 and up, and free for two and under. Parking is $5.
  • Thanksgiving Day is one of the biggest days of the year for movie-watching. Several sites can help you find movie times and directions to local theatres, such as Fandango, Yahoo! Movies, or the online movies section of the Dallas Morning News.
  • If you're looking for someplace to walk off those excess calories, the Trinity Trails in Fort Worth run throughout the city and Dallas has its own hike and bike trails.
  • And for those of you whose dogs stole the Thanksgiving turkey, the dog parks will be open for them to run off their excess calories.
