Here's a smattering of free stuff to do in Dallas and the surrounding area for Jun 19-25:
Thu, Jun 19- 9 a.m-noon at the Heritage Senior Center in Irving, seniors can find help with Medicare, understanding what's required, and organizing bills for filing with Medicare and insurance.
- Thursday Night Live at the Dallas Museum of Art starts at 6 p.m. and includes Jazz in the Atrium with the James Gilyard Ensemble, Sketching in the Galleries at 7 p.m., and the Comic Book Club at 7:30 p.m.
- 6:30 p.m. at One Arts Plaza (1722 Routh Street) in the Arts District of downtown Dallas, watch the Dallas Black Dance Theatre perform.
- 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at Oak Point Park (2801 Spring Creek Parkway) in Plano, enjoy the unique sounds of Vocal Trash while you picnic in the park. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket and bring a picnic or buy food there.
- 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at Brut Dallas near Mockingbird Station in Dallas, taste a variety of champagnes before you buy.
- 5 p.m.-midnight, celebrate the summer solstice with live music at Teepee Hill at White Rock Lake. Bring a picnic and the whole family. Leashed dogs welcome.
- 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at Central Market in Fort Worth (I-30 and Hulen Street), listen to rock band Meltdown.
- 6 p.m., meet Janet Evanovich, author of the Stephanie Plum bounty hunter series, at Barnes & Noble at Preston Road and Park Boulevard in Plano.
- Noon at Sam's Club in Plano (1200 Spring Creek Parkway, just off Central Expressway), watch a qualifying round of the Nathan's Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest.
- 2 p.m., at NorthPark Center in Dallas, take your kids to see "Slappy and Monday", a hands-on activity for elementary school age kids.
- 6 p.m.-9 p.m. enjoy the Latin sounds of Latin Magik at Central Market (I-30 and Hulen Street) in Fort Worth.
- 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., listen to Latin guitarist Joban Quijano at One Arts Plaza (1722 Routh Street) in the Arts District in downtown Dallas.
- 1 p.m.-6 p.m., enjoy jazz band Natural Bridge at Central Market (320 Coit Road) in Plano.
- 2 p.m., watch "Frank Lloyd Wright", a film by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, at the Kimbell Art Museum in the Fort Worth Cultural District.
- 2 p.m., meet Jana Kohl, author of "A Rare Breed of Love", at the Lincoln Park Barnes & Noble (7700 West Northwest Highway) in Dallas.
