Dump the Pump Day

Thursday June 19, 2008
Downtown Plano DART Station

June 19, 2008 is the third annual Dump the Pump Day -- a day when many public transport authorities offer free or discounted rides on mass transit. With gas prices as high as they are, many people are looking for ways to save on gas or just do without, whether it's bicycling all or part of the way to work or riding buses or trains. DART recently released figures indicating that ridership is up 19% over last year. Unsurprising when a month's pass on DART -- which includes unlimited rides on buses and light rail -- costs less than a tank of gas for many vehicles.

DART will not offer free or reduced fare rides on buses or light rail, but over in Fort Worth, all buses are free. The Trinity Railway Express is still full fare. The Denton County Transportation Authority is also letting people ride free on their buses in Lewisville, Highland Village, and Denton, as well as their route from Denton to downtown Dallas.
