Quilt Mania II Family Day

Quilts have long been evocative of home, family, and a cozy bed in mid-winter. But quilts have been much more. They're pieces of art, political statements, and personal mementos. Eighteen Dallas-area cultural institutions have gotten together to show collections of quilts over a six month period Sep 26, 2008-Apr 1, 2009.

This weekend, several of the institutions involved in Quilt Mania II will gather at the Old Red Museum in downtown Dallas for a family day. Quilts from their exhibits will be displayed. The Old Red's exhibit of twenty years of the Quilter's Guild of Dallas's block contest opened last week. The Women's Museum (Fair Park in Dallas) political quilt exhibit will open Nov 6, but they will be offering a sneak peek at Old Red.

Live music, children's crafts, and talks and demonstrations make this a festival for the whole family. Admission is half-price all day Saturday, Oct 18, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.: $4 for adults, $3 for those 65 and over, and $2.50 for those under 16.
