This Weekend
This weekend around Dallas, there are some good family activities. Besides the annual autumn and Halloween festivals at the Dallas Arboretum and the zoo, there are cemetery tours, a Guinness Book of World Records event, and a Family Day Out event at city hall.
On Saturday, the Dallas Historical Society is sponsoring two cemetery tours. Tour guide Francis James (the "Cemetery Lady") will take a bus load of adventurers to several area cemeteries to visit Dallas's pioneers. The bus leaves the Hall of State at Fair Park at 9 a.m. and returns at 3 p.m. The tour costs $50 and includes lunch. Tour guide Ken Holmes will lead tourists around Grove Hill Memorial Park to visit the graves of local famous people. This tour costs $25 and has two times: 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.-6:15 p.m. Call Nora Lenhart at (214) 421-4500 x101 or email Nora@dallashistory.org to reserve a spot.
Also on Saturday, the City of Dallas is having a Family Day Out at the plaza in front of city hall in downtown Dallas. From noon until 6 p.m., enjoy live entertainment, children's activities, safety and wellness information, and drawings for great prizes.
Sunday at noon, downtown Dallas will host the world's largest beach ball bounce along Elm Street. The Guinness Book of World Records will be on hand to record the event. Carnival Cruise Lines, the sponsor, will have a booth in Pegasus Plaza where they will have free ice cream and goodies, including a few cruises. Live entertainment will be on hand.
