Here's a smattering of free stuff to do in Dallas and the surrounding area for Nov 20-26:
Thu, Nov 20- noon, meet author Harry Haines at the Barnes & Noble at Golden Triangle Mall (2201 I-35 East in Denton).
- 5 p.m.-9 p.m., enjoy live music and happy hour specials at Mockingbird Station.
- 7 p.m., Wonderful Weekend at the Center kicks off with a poetry slam and a diasporic dancing experience at the South Dallas Cultural Center (3400 South Fitzhugh in Dallas).
- 7 p.m., meet sportswriter and book author Jaime Aron at Borders Bookstore (5500 Greenville Avenue).
- 8 p.m. and again at 9:15 p.m., UTD Theatre is presenting “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” at the University Theater (800 West Campbell Road in Richardson) at UTD.
- 11 a.m., the mouse from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie will be at the Barnes & Noble at University Village (1612 S. University Drive in Fort Worth).
- 5 p.m.-9 p.m., watch a romantic movie outside the Angelika Theatre and enjoy “couples only” discounts at the shops and restaurants at Mockingbird Station.
- 6 p.m.-9 p.m., attend the opening of “Under the Influence '08”, an exhibit by nine artists, at Cedars Art Gallery (1114 S. Akard Street in Dallas).
- 6 p.m.-9 p.m., attend the opening of “Recollection”, an exhibit by three artists, at the Cerulean Gallery (6609 A Hillcrest in Dallas).
- 8 p.m. and again at 9:15 p.m., UTD Theatre is presenting “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” at the University Theater (800 West Campbell Road in Richardson) at UTD.
- 10 a.m., meet author Kristine Kahanek at a special storytime at the Barnes & Noble at University Village (1612 S. University Drive in Fort Worth).
- noon, enjoy Jumbies Fort Worth! at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in the Fort Worth Cultural District.
- 2 p.m., watch the film “Victimas del Pecado” at the Latino Cultural Center (2600 Live Oak in Dallas). The film does not have English subtitles.
- 2 p.m., kids can enjoy a Harry Potter Creepy Safari at NorthPark Center.
- 8 p.m., former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee will be on hand to sign copies of his book Do the Right Thing at Borders Bookstore (10720 Preston Road in Dallas). Tickets are required to attend. Call (214) 363-1977.
- 11:30 a.m., watch the Dallas Cowboys play the 49ers (kickoff at noon) on the huge screens at the Granada Theater (3524 Greenville Ave in Dallas).
- 2 p.m.-4 p.m., meet artist Liudmila Kondakova and view her work at Martin Lawrence Galleries (13550 Dallas Parkway, inside the Dallas Galleria).
- 1:30 p.m.-2 p.m., take a meditation and healing class at Exhale Spa (5300 E. Mockingbird Lane, next to Hotel Palomar, across from Mockingbird Station).
- 5 p.m.-9 p.m., enjoy a family movie outside the Angelika Theatre at Mockingbird Station. Chairs and patio heaters will be provided, but feel free to bring your own chairs and blankets.
- 7 p.m., meet author and Mr. Cowboy Bob Lilly at Borders Bookstore (10720 Preston Road in Dallas).
- 10:30 a.m., kids can act out poems and compose their own parodies of Mother Goose rhymes at NorthPark Center.
- 7 p.m.-9 p.m., listen to St. Paul's Jazz Band at One Arts Plaza (1722 Routh Street).
