Thanksgiving Things To Do

Thanksgiving is next Thursday and I'm already making plans to not host it at my house. I'll cook up some sides or maybe buy a bottle of wine and take it to the hostess. If you've been assigned to bring the dessert, you might consider the Cranberry and Walnut Tart from Lavendou Bistro Provencal (19009 Preston Road in Dallas). One tart serves 10 and costs $24.95. Orders must be received at least 24 hours in advance and three days in advance for larger orders. Call Lavendou at (972) 248-1911 to order. The French restaurant will make them to order until December 31, so it's perfect for all sorts of holiday potlucks.
What else is there to do on Thanksgiving? You can always hop out of bed at the crack of dawn and head over to White Rock Lake for the annual Turkey Trot. Many places serve a full traditional Thanksgiving meal. After the meal, take a long walk along one of the Metroplex's many hiking trails. Movie theaters are always open on Thanksgiving Day, so that's a good way to finish off a full day. Take the kids to an IMAX or go to the Angelika or the Magnolia, where you can have a glass of wine with your movie (the wine helps with digestion, of course).
