All deep-fried things must come to an end.
You can pay tribute by participating in my poll. Is it a corny dog or a corn dog? I'm a native Texan so I believe in corny dogs and mustard. But good for you if you prefer ketchup.
Big Tex may be gone (because of Friday's fire) but he's certainly not forgotten. I woke up Friday morning in Arizona to see the news of his demise all over Facebook. I thought it was particularly amazing that so many were mourning his loss in social media -- and numerous photos of the corn dog tributes were left at the site where he stood for 60 years.
According to the State Fair officials, the fire likely started in his right boot. Smoke billowed from his neck and then he became engulfed in flames and was reduced to a metal skeleton in minutes.
But don't worry, Big Tex will be back. I'm sure he will be bigger and better than ever.
But put all sadness aside because local artist (and comedic genius) Tim Halperin put a smile on our faces with parody of a Kings of Leon song -- with his version: Big Tex is on Fire. Yes, he used lyrics like "he's made out of wire" and "funeral pyre" in the same song.
