Bastille Day Events

Celebrate French Independence

by Heather Carr
for About.com

On July 14, 1789, French citizens stormed the Bastille, setting France on the path to modern nationhood. In France, they celebrate with parades and fireworks, but in Dallas, we limit ourselves to fine wine, fine food, and fine art.

Bastille Day Wine Tasting at Hotel St. Germain

Jul 12, 7 p.m. Taste champagne and five wines paired with French and Mediterranean dishes. The wine tasting costs $70 per person. Call (214) 871-2516 for reservations.

Bastille Day Gourmet Dinner

Jul 14, 7 p.m. The French-American Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual Bastille Day Gourmet Dinner at the Lavendou Bistro Provencal in Plano, 19009 Preston Road. The cost is $75 per person, all-inclusive. Reserve your spot by going to their web site and printing off a form.

Dallas Museum of Art

While it's not an official Bastille Day Celebration, you can indulge your yen for all things French with a tour of the DMA's European collections.
