Earth Day, April 22, is a time to remind ourselves to live lightly on the planet. Several celebrations are happening around the area this year.
Apr 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. EarthFest 2008 is being held on the AT&T Plaza and Pegasus Plaza in downtown Dallas with live music form local band Vocal Trash, food, a recycled fashion show, and environmentally conscious living ideas.
Apr 18, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Live Green Expo is organized around the principles of green transportation, energy, yard and garden, indoor air quality, food and agriculture, waste reduction, lifestyle and recreation, water, and green building and remodeling. It will be held at the Plano Centre at 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. To get there, take I-75 (Central Expressway) north from Dallas5 and exit Spring Creek Parkway. Take a right. Admission is free.
Apr 19, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Oak Cliff Earth Day Festival is being held at Lake Cliff Park at 1200 N. Zang Boulevard in Dallas, near the intersection of Colorado and I-35.
Apr 19, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The Amon Carter Museum is hosting a Family Fun Day for Earth Day, with fun crafts made of recycled materials and stories that will bring art to life. The Amon Carter Museum is at 3501 Camp Bowie Boulevard in Fort Worth in the
Fort Worth Cultural District. Take I-30 to the University exit and go north to Lancaster. Go left and the museum will be on your right before you get to the intersection of Camp Bowie and Lancaster.
Apr 22, 4 p.m.-9 p.m. All of
Mockingbird Station is getting into the spirit of Earth Day. A farmer's market featuring produce from local farmers and community gardens will be on the open-air pavilion 4 p.m.-8 p.m. The farmer's market will be regular feature of Mockingbird Station every Thursday 5 p.m.-8 p.m. through the month of May. PURE Dental, an eco-friendly dentistry, is having a party 7 p.m.-9 p.m. for Almay's Pure Blends, an eco-friendly cosmetic line. Movida Boutique is hosting a fashion show 7 p.m.-9 p.m. A sidewalk sale featuring locally-made goods and eco-friendly goods from many different stores will go on the entire time.
May 2-3, noon to 6 p.m. The Dance Council is sponsoring a spectacular show of over 1500 performers from school groups to professional dance troups. Free classes of many dance varieties will be offered. Food, shopping, and fun for the kids is also available. Dance for the Planet will be held at Samuell-Grand Park, 6200 East Grand Avenue in Dallas. From I-30, take the Grand Avenue exit and go north. Samuell-Grand Park is on the right almost immediately.
May 2, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The beautiful grounds of the Heard Museum in McKinney will play host to channel 8 news personalities, live music (or the sounds of nature, if you step away from the crowds), and lots of kids' activities. To get to the Heard Museum, take I-75 (Central Expressway) north from Dallas and exit 38A and go east. Turn south on highway 5 and make a left on FM 1378.
