The pirates are back on the prairie Saturday, February 1, 2014 -- and this time and will be giving it a go in the winter instead of the summer! Grand Prairie's own local pirate band, the Bilge Pumps, will return to the Uptown Theater to put on an evening full of pirate fun and nautical nonsense for the entire family! Seadog Slam will be in the lobby pre-show and during intermissions entertaining everyone with salty rhymes to soothe your ears. Lobby doors will open at 5 p.m., theater doors open at 5:30, and the Bilge Pumps will start at 6:00, intermission around 6:45 to allow you to head to the lobby to enjoy fresh snacks, sodas, and booze being provided by the Uptown's full bar and friendly staff. Then more pirate poetry from the Seadog Slam, and one more set. Admission to the concert is $10 for adults and $5 for children 5-12. Tickets are for general seating and can be purchased in advance by calling the Uptown Box Office at 972-237-UPTN (8786) or at the theater on the day of the event, or by going to the Treasure Island Page and purchasing securely online.

The high energy annual event has become known for featuring the latest in locally produced, independent fashion on a runway. While most designers are Texas based, the most recent Pin Show featured designers from all over Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, and Louisiana. The show includes 15new designers and 8 veteran designers for a total of 24 lines hitting the runway. Each designer showcases 6 looks on the runway, featuring menswear, women’s RTW, Avante-garde, bridal, jewelry, handbags, intimates, and resort wear.

The Cowtown Marathon takes place February 21-23, 2014 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. The Cowtown offers a race distance for everyone including the Cook Children’s 5K, Adults 5K and 10K on Saturday and the Ultra Marathon, presented by Miller Coors, Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday. The entire family can participate either as a runner or a spectator cheering along the route. Ambitious runners can take The Cowtown Challenge and run a race both days!
The most phenomenal floral festival in the world! "Dallas Blooms" runs from February 22 - April 6, 2014. It is a Bucket List item if you have not ever attended. The Dallas Arboretum is open from 9-5 daily. Bring a camera, a picnic basket full of goodies (yes you can bring wine, champagne or a favorite adult beverage), sandwiches and more. (Just no grills). It's an amazing backdrop to White Rock Lake.
