IMAX Theatres

For a really big screen experience, check out an IMAX theatre. The screen is so wide and so high that you will feel you are inside the film, but the size of the image does not diminish the quality. IMAX films come in all varieties, from museum-quality documentaries to the latest Hollywood blockbusters.

Cinemark at Webb Chapel

Seventeen regular movie screens and one IMAX screen bring the latest films to Dallas. Comfortable stadium seating and regular movie fare, such as popcorn and soft drinks, make the experience familiar, yet more. IMAX tickets cost $9.50 for adults, $7.50 for children, and $8.50 for seniors. Tickets to non-IMAX films cost $5.25 for children and seniors at all times, $6 for adults before 6 p. m., $7.75 for adults after 6 p. m. Sun-Thu, and $8.25 for adults after 6 p. m. on Fri and Sat. Cinemark at Webb Chapel is located at 11819 Webb Chapel in Dallas. To get there, take 635 North Loop (going east or west) and exit at Webb Chapel (exit #25). The cinema can be easily seen on the south side of the highway.

TI Founders Theatre

The TI Founders Theater at the Science Place in Fair Park shows larger-than-life documentaries. A 79 foot screen surrounds the audience and 20,000 watts of sound brings the audience into the film. Every showing begins with a tour of Dallas filmed especially for the TI Founders Theater. Admission is $7 for adults; $6 for children 3-18, students with ID, and seniors; and free for children under three -- although very young children are often overwhelmed by the experience.

Omni Theatre

The Omni Theatre at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History shows high-quality documentaries as well as Hollywood blockbusters on its IMAX screen. The Omni is open although the museum is still being built. Tickets can be purchased at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame (50 feet from the Omni Theatre) or by calling (817) 255-9540.

Colleyville Cinema and Grille

The Colleyville Cinema shows blockbusters on several screens and an IMAX screen. Marquee Dining + Spirits serves salads, sandwiches, and full entrees. The Colleyville Cinema and Grille is located at 5655 Colleyville Boulevard (Highway 26/Grapevine Highway). Formerly the Metro Cinema and Indigo Grille.
