Summer is here, the kids are out of school, and there's lots of fun things to do around Dallas. Try these summer activities.
May 1-Aug 28. Several venues around town offer free or low-cost summer concerts. Most are outdoor and most allow you to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets.
Mid-May until Early September. Water Parks are a great way to cool off in the summer. Many water parks offer swim lessons and party packages.
Jun 7-Aug 13. Several cinemas in the Dallas Fort Worth area offer free screenings of kids' movies in the summer. Most are on Tuesday and Wednesday during the day, but some are on Saturdays.
The Dallas area has excellent weather for outdoor activities. Here is a collection of hike and bike trails in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. Remember your sunscreen and hat and some comfortable shoes and get outdoors.
Burger's Lake is a one-acre spring-fed swimming hole inside Loop 820 in Fort Worth. A great way to cool down in summer, the lake is surrounded by a thirty-acre recreational area.
Summer camps keep the kids busy. Several camps are offered around the Metroplex.
Most cities have a parks and recreation department and most of those departments are open year-round. During the summer, more classes and camps are offered and some have daycare for schoolchildren. Some operate pools with public swim times and lessons. Many will accept non-residents, so if the city next door to you has facilities more to your liking, try them.
How about a film festival, highland games, arts, jazz, Shakespeare in the park, and shopping?
Despite the heat, or perhaps because of it, the festivals in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex don't slow down in July.
August heats up, and so do the festivals around here.
