Inexpensive Things To Do for Valentine's Day

From , former About.com Guide

Want to impress your sweetie, but don't have much money? These ideas should keep you in hearts with your Valentine without putting your budget in the red.

February 14, 2009 falls on a Saturday.

Champagne Tastings

Champagne is a fun and romantic drink and is traditionally associated with Valentine's Day. Many places around the Metroplex have champagne tastings. Every Friday, all day, at Grand Tastings on McKinney Avenue, three flights of champagne are served with cheese. Cost is $14-30 each tasting. Wine tastings (also with cheese) are available every day, all day. Prices vary. Choose from a menu of wines.

Dallas Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum is blooming even at this time of year, though not as much as it will be in April. Walk hand-in-hand through the flowers, then have a picnic on the grounds. $8 each adult ticket.

The Swans at Fair Park

The Swans at Fair Park are paddleboats for two. Or three, if your babysitter finds something better to do. Take a turn around Leonhardt Lagoon with your sweetie. Afterwards, have a picnic on the grounds or stroll through one of the museums.

Symphonies

Listen to some romantic music on Valentine's evening.
  • The Richardson Symphony Orchestra is performing "Music for Lovers: The Most Romantic Moments from Movies, Broadway and Opera" with tickets starting at $12. The performance will be held on Feb 14 at 8 p.m. at the Eisemann Center, 2351 Performance Drive in Richardson. The Eisemann Center is less than a minute's walk from the Galatyn Park station on DART's Red Line.
  • The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra will perform "An Affair of the Heart: Music and Romance" at 8 p.m. on Feb 13 and 14 and at 2 p.m. on Feb 15 at Bass Hall in downtown Fort Worth. Tickets start at $26.

Hyena's Comedy Club

Feb 13 and 14. Hyena's Comedy Club has local comedians as well as nationally famous ones. Their Valentine's Day package includes preferred seating for two, a champagne toast for two, three long-stem roses, and chocolate-covered strawberries. Todd John will be the comedian. Call (817) 877-5233 to reserve tickets and confirm showtimes. Hyena's is located at 605 Houston Street in Sundance Square (downtown Fort Worth).
