Shortly after the web was discovered on 06 Aug 2007, the internet was abuzz with speculation that these spiders were a species of social spiders. Social spiders live together intentionally and work together to build massive webs. This web doesn't appear to be the result of such work. It is more likely the result of a mass dispersal event. Hundreds of spiders hatched at the same time and headed in the same direction.
