Cottonbelt Trail - North Richland Hills, Texas Segment

From , former About.com Guide

The Cottonbelt Trail is part of the planned Dallas Fort Worth Veloweb which will connect suburbs to downtown and residential neighborhoods to the areas where the residents work. The North Richland Hills segment of the Cottonbelt Trail stretches for four miles from Precinct Line Road to Browning Drive.

Access Points:

Parking lots are located at Dick Faram Park (Amundson Drive) and the municipal complex located immediately west of Iron Horse and south of Dick Fischer.

To get to Dick Faram Park, drive north on Davis Boulevard and turn left on Main Street (up near old downtown Smithfield). Take the left fork immediately after the railroad tracks and Dick Faram Park will be on the right less than 1/4-mile down. The Cottonbelt Trail is on the left side of the road.

Path:

The Cottonbelt Trail begins at the city border of Hurst and North Richland Hills in the 7200 block of Precinct Line Road, near where Glade Road intersects with it. The trail runs southwest along a tree-lined path between two residential neighborhoods. It crosses the 7000 block of Eden Road, a lightly traveled road. At that point, it continues southwest parallel to Amundson Drive, past the access lot in Dick Faram Park, to Main Street.

The trail crosses Main Street and Davis Boulevard, a heavily-trafficked road, in quick succession and passes behind several businesses. Afterwards, there is a bit more residential neighborhood and then open fields. The trail crosses the 6500 block of Smithfield Road, the 6300 block of Holiday Lane, the 7500 block of Mid Cities Boulevard/Watauga Road, the 6000 block of Iron Horse Boulevard, the 5800 block of Rufe Snow, another heavily-trafficked road, and ends after another third of a mile in the 6000 block of Browning Drive.

Points of Interest:

Currently, the Cottonbelt Trail in North Richland Hills links to Walker's Creek Trail. Walker's Creek Trail will take you to NRH2O, where they have plenty of bike stands to lock up your bikes and enjoy a day at the water park. Walker's Creek Trail also links up to the North Electric Trail, which runs west to the Holiday Lane Athletic Fields.
