It's hot -- but there are lots of cool things to do in DFW.

First Fridays at The Modern

The first Friday of each month, the Star-Telegram, the Modern, and Café Modern team up to bring live music and cocktails in the Museum's Grand Lobby from 5 to 8 p.m. Bring your friends and enjoy diverse live performances, cocktail selections, and dinner in Café Modern. A docent-led, 20-minute tour of the galleries is available at 6:30 p.m., regular gallery admission applies. Gallery admission is free for Modern members and Star-Telegram Press Pass holders during First Fridays at the Modern.

July 3-4: Best Places to Watch Fireworks in DFW

Just about every city in the metroplex offers an amazing fireworks display. Check out your area and see if there are parades or festivals in addition to fireworks.

July 5-6: Pat Green and Billy Currington in Concert at Lone Star Park

What: The Lone Star Music Series continues with Pat Green on July 5 and Billy Currington on July 6. The stage for the concert will be outdoors, just outside the racing surface, in front of the sun-shaded Courtyard of Champions. The lawn area is first come, first served, and there is limited patio table seating in the Courtyard.  Blankets and folding chairs are permitted. The concerts is free with the regular $5 general admission price before 9 p.m. Admission will increase to $20 after 9 p.m. VIP packages are available.

When: July 5 and 6, 2013 at about 10:30 p.m.

July 12-14: Taste of Dallas

What: Culinary delights from Dallas' top chefs and most popular restaurants. It's also a shopping mecca for foodies with cookware, spices, cutlery, homemade olive oil, jams, sauces and more. The event benefits the American Heart Association/American Stroke Assocation.

For the kids: Bounce houses, slides, interactive games, balloon artists, jugglers, magicians and more entertainment.

When: July 12-14, 2013

Where: Fair Park, 1121 First Avenue, Dallas, TX.

Cost: $8 admission; free children under 12. Parking $12. Save 35% on advance tickets at Kroger.

July 15: National Ice Cream Day 2014

Beat the heat with something frozen and sweet. You've done the cardio. Now indulge! Don't forget to vote for your favorite ice cream flavor! July is National Ice Cream Month!

Take in a Concert at the Arboretum

July 27-28: Dallas Bridal Show

Don't make plans to walk down the aisle without going to the Dallas Bridal Show first! For 23 years it's been the go-to place for all your wedding needs. It's the third largest bridal show in the United States and the largest bridal show in the Metroplex with over 300 wedding businesses, ranging from the first steps of planning your wedding to the honeymoon. Fashion shows, amazing prizes including a diamond ring from Dallas Gold & Silver, and much more! From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 27-28, 2013 at Market Hall in Dallas.

Mesquite Pro Rodeo

Cowboys and cowgirls (and those who pretend to be): be sure to make it out to the Mesquite Pro Rodeo Series. It's a PRCA World Championship event with big name cowboys, bull riding and lots of fun. The arena is air conditioned so it's the perfect event when DFW's experiencing triple digits. There's everything from individual tickets to suites available and nightly group specials. It's the most fun you can have with your boots on.

When: 7:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night in June, July and August 2013.
