The State Fair of Texas is an annual fair held at Fair Park in Dallas. It begins near the end of September and continues into the middle of October. The dates for 2008 are Sep 26-Oct 19. An estimated 3 million people attend the fair each year, bringing nearly $350 million to the Dallas economy. The State Fair kicks off each year with a parade through downtown Dallas.
Every year, the Big Tex Choice Awards at the State Fair of Texas showcase some strange foods. Most are fried, many are sweet, but all have that unmistakable flavor of midway food. As an example, the 2007 winner was fried cookie dough -- fried, sweet, and something you wouldn't expect to find anywhere but a carnival.
Spring is finally here. The festivals begin to pick up with a wine and food festival to kick the month off.

Despite the heat, or perhaps because of it, the festivals in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex don't slow down.
The fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. It's a great opportunity to get together with family and friends and barbecue, swim, check out a local festival, or play sports (or maybe all of the above) and then watch the fireworks show. If you're in a good location, you can do like I do and just set up lawn chairs in your own backyard to watch several nearby pyrotechnics.
Celebrate Bastille Day with these events.
August heats up, and so do the festivals around here.
September brings a resurgence in the number of festivals around Dallas. The days are still warm, but not fiercely hot anymore, making outdoor festivals much more fun. Traditionally held on the Sunday before St. Patrick's Day, this parade followed a route on Ross Avenue through the Dallas Cultural District, and ended in the West End.
