Even though it's hot, there are many cool things to do in DFW this August.
What: Carnival, rodeo, horse show, parade, and concerts compete for attention with the art, barbecue, and beauty contests, and the music at the North Texas Fairgrounds at 2217 N. Carroll Boulevard in Denton.

Music, comedy, and arts and crafts keep the adults entertained, while face painting, a puppet show, karaoke, and more arts and crafts keep the kids busy. What: Lion's Club Balloon Festival and Fair at Highland Village. Little Miss Beauty Queens and Pagent Moms will want to meet Miss Texas United America for pictures and autographs. Ever ride in a helicopter? You can ride in one at the festival for only $50 plus tax. That seems like a pretty good deal considering gas prices today. There's also amusement rides like a pirate swinging ship and a fun slide, fun house, and you can play musical chairs. There's lots of great entertainment -- like the SpongeBob Bounce House -- for kids under 12.
