Winter chill won't keep us from festivals.
Jan 1, 2:30 p.m. Comerica Bank New Year's Parade will wind its way around downtown Dallas with dozens of floats, marching bands, and performers. The parade starts at Ross Avenue and Harwood and goes along Ross to Lamar. The parade route follows Lamar to Houston Street and into Victory Park. It ends by the American Airlines Center, where immediately following the parade, Texas Tech and Missouri will hold pep rallies. It's easy to park at one of DART's Park and Ride locations and take the
Red Line or the
Blue Line light rail to the West End or the Akard station.
Jan 6-25. The USA Film Festival sponsors this series of movies for kids. Both world premiere films and classics will be shown. The festival is shown at the
Angelika Film Center at
Mockingbird Station. To get there, take Central Expressway and exit at Mockingbird Lane. Go east on Mockingbird and the station will be on your left. There is a large parking lot for DART's Park and Ride. Or take DART's
Red Line or
Blue Line to the Mockingbird Station.
Jan 16-18. Hundreds of exhibitors gather for the Fort Worth Home Show each year and show off thousands of new ideas for the home and garden. Several experts will have talks and be around at the booths, including Howard Garrett, Dirt Doctor. Admission costs $8 for everyone thirteen and older. Kids twelve and under get in free. Seniors can attend on Friday for $6. The Dallas Home Show is being held at the Fort Worth Convention Center in downtown Fort Worth. To get there, take the
TRE to the ITC station and walk up the hill.
