August heats up, and so do the festivals around here.
Aug 14-21. The Asian Film Foundation of Dallas sponsors the Asian Film Festival to showcase films that are by, for, and about Asians.
Aug 15-23. Carnival, rodeo, horse show, and a parade compete for attention with the art, barbecue, and beauty contests, and the music at the North Texas Fairgrounds at 2217 N. Carroll Boulevard in Denton.
Aug 17, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Music, comedy, and arts and crafts keep the adults entertained, while face painting, a puppet show, karaoke, and more arts and crafts keep the kids busy. Held at the Jewish Community Center at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center at 2301 Flora Street in Dallas.
Aug 29-Sep 1. All things anime are celebrated over Labor Day weekend. Guests of honor include directors, artists, and voice actors. AnimeFest is being held at the Hyatt Regency Dallas (the hotel under Reunion Tower in downtown Dallas).
Aug 29-Sep 1. The Old Red Courthouse museum in downtown Dallas is celebrating the opening of a new exhibit. "Going Places" looks at transportation in history and the opening weekend will have travel tips from local travel agents, talks on stagecoach travel, crafts for the kids, and live music. Admission is $5 per person.
