Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Observance in Plano
Jan 18 (Fri), 10 a. m. to noon. The Plano Senior Recreation Center is holding a Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Observance for the over-fifty crowd. The Dallas Black Dance Theatre, musicians Brandy Travis and Charlene Dixon, former Miss Senior Texas Charlye Higgins, and current Miss Senior Texas Zumwalt will perform. Jan 19 (Sat) at 10 a. m., downtown Plano hosts a parade starting at the intersection of Avenue K and Parker Road. The parade route will head south along Avenue K to Plano City Hall. After the parade, a Dr. A. Marcus Nelson will speak in the City Hall Chambers a health fair will be held in Douglass Community Center. Jan 20, at 7 p. m., the MLK All Community Choir will sing at Saint Andrew United Methodist Church at 5801 W. Plano Parkway. At 7:45 a. m., on Jan 21 (Mon), a leadership breakfast -- free and open to the public -- followed by a panel discussion about community issues will be held at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center of Collin College. From 7 p. m. to 8:15 p. m., Plano ISD students will put on a show.
Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Black Academy of Arts and Letters is using film, music, dance, and the spoken word in this tribute to the life and works of Martin Luther King, Jr. It's being held at the Morton H. Jan 21, 8 a. m. to 4 p. m. A parade around the Fair Park grounds will be followed by a festival at the Automobile Building lasting most of the day. Shop, learn about health matters, or just be entertained. Admission is free.
