Health care can be expensive, especially for those without insurance. These health fairs can ease some of the burden by helping with preventive care and free
immunizations for children and adults.
Throughout 2009, CVS is sponsoring at least one health fair each weekend at various CVS locations in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.
Hispanic Wellness Fair
Aug 2, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The Hispanic Wellness Fair was started to inform Hispanic residents of Tarrant County to the community's health resources, but it is free and open to the public. This fair includes free immunizations, dental and vision exams, cancer screenings, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, glucose tests, and HIV/AIDS testing. The Hispanic Wellness Fair is held at the Will Rogers Memorial Center (3410 W. Lancaster Avenue) in the
Fort Worth Cultural District.
Dallas Mayor's Back to School Fair
Aug 7, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. For kids ages 5-18, who meet the
federal income poverty guidelines, and attend or will be attending
Dallas ISD schools can go to the Mayor's Back to School Fair at Centennial Hall in Fair Park in Dallas. Free school supplies, health and vision screenings, other giveaways, and many organizations will be part of the fair. The intent of the fair is to reduce the number of schoolchildren who are late to return to school in the fall because of health care issues or lack of school supplies. More than 20,000 schoolchildren are served each year.
Back to School FIESTA Expo
Aug 14, 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Irving Mall (at the intersection of Belt Line Road and Highway 183 in Irving) hosts this health fair with health screenings and referrals for follow-ups if necessary.Aug 23, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Tarrant County kids who are eligible for the Free or Reduced Lunch Program (even if they don't participate -- they only have to be eligible) are welcome to attend the Back to School Roundup. Students receive school supplies, backpack, a pair of socks and a pair of shoes, a free haircut, and free immunizations. Supplies are limited to the first 10,000 children who attend, so please
pre-register Jul 15-Aug 15. The Back to School Roundup is held at the Amon G. Carter Exhibit Hall at the Will Rogers Coliseum in the
Fort Worth Cultural District.
Duncanville Wellness and Safety Fair
Oct 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Duncanville students can get a free eye exam and glasses, if necessary, with a referral from a school nurse, courtesy of the Duncanville Lions Club. There will also be cataract, glaucoma, hepatitis, sickle cell, and prostate screenings. The fire department will check child safety seats for proper installation. Other community groups will attend. The Duncanville Wellness and Safety Fair will be held at the Hopkins Senior Center at 206 James Collins Boulevard in Duncanville.Oct 18-19, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. A health fair concentrating on alternatives to traditional medicine, such as reflexology and essential oils, has lectures, shopping, and entertainment. Admission costs $5 for everyone 12-65 years old. Children under twelve and adults over 65 get in free. The Wellness Expo is being held at the Addison Conference Centre at 15650 Addison Road in Addison.
Community Wellness Day
Nov 1, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The South Dallas Cultural Center and Wellness NOW sponsor a community wellness day with free health screenings and information booths. A womb wellness seminar is available for $35, but everything else is free. The South Dallas Cultural Center is located at 3400 S. Fitzhugh Avenue in Dallas.
