The CDC revised their
recommendations on school closings. School districts across Texas had closed as a precautionary measure against the spread of
swine flu, but then were told they could reopen, depending on local conditions. Parents are still requested to keep ill children home from school and daycare. New York schools are still closing, but Texas schools are open.
Denton ISD
Denton ISD. Two schools in Denton ISD were closed on May 1 after three students at each school were diagnosed with Type A influenza. The remaining schools will be closed May 4 and the district will reopen May 7.Fort Worth ISD. Fort Worth ISD is closing all schools as of April 30 and will remain closed until at least May 11 because of four confirmed cases and 22 probable ones.
Lake Worth ISD
Lake Worth ISD: Lake Worth ISD closed all schools on May 5 and will reopen on May 8.Lewisville ISD. Hebron Valley Elementary School closed April 30 through May 11 because of one confirmed and two probable cases of swine flu. The rest of the schools in the Lewisville ISD closed on May 1 and will remain closed until May 7.
Ponder ISD. Ponder ISD closed May 1 and will remain closed until May 11. There are no confirmed or suspected cases of swine flu in the school district, but several suspected cases have come to light.
Daniel Webster Elementary
Dallas ISD. Daniel Webster Elementary closed on May 1 and will reopen on May 11.Richardson ISD. With one confirmed case of swine flu and two suspected cases, Canyon Creek Elementary School in the Richardson ISD closed and reopened on May 4. The rest of the schools in the Richardson ISD are remaining open at this time. Two other schools in Richardson have had suspected cases -- two cases at Northlake Elementary and one case at Moss Haven. Both schools are still open pending further test results.
The Golden Rule Charter School will reopen on May 11.
Wilson Middle, Barron Early Childhood, and Sigler Elementary
Plano ISD. Wilson Middle School closed May 1 and on May 4, Barron Early Childhood School and Sigler Elementary School closed. All three schools will reopen on May 6.Shannon Learning Center
Birdville ISD. One adult has been confirmed as having swine flu at the Shannon Learning Center and Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP). The Shannon Learning Center will reopen on May 6, due to revised CDC recommendations.
