Reunion Tower

by Heather Carr
for About.com

Overview:

The tower offers spectacular views of the Dallas skyline and surrounding areas, even as far as Fort Worth on most days. Night views are equally spectacular. A rotating restaurant and an observation deck make Reunion Tower a good place to take a date or the whole family.

Note: Reunion Tower underwent a $23 million renovation and reopened in the spring of 2009 with 560, Wolfgang Puck's new restaurant at the top. The observation deck is not yet open.

The Building:

The base of Reunion Tower is made of four cylinders of concrete poured in place--three on the outside with glass-faced elevators for a view on the way up and one on the inside with stairs and mechanical shafts.

The globe is also made of concrete poured in place. The three levels contain a restaurant on top, a special events venue on the middle level, and an observation deck with a food kiosk on the lower level. A geodesic dome made up of aluminum struts surrounds the globe. Lights are at each intersection of the struts.

The Numbers:
  • Built 1976-1978
  • Opened Apr 15, 1978
  • 55 stories
  • 560 feet tall
  • 68 second elevator ride to the top
  • 260 lights
The Observation Deck:

From here, you can walk around the circumference of the tower. The observation deck is stationary, so those with motion problems can still enjoy the views Reunion Tower has to offer.

Cost: Adults $2, seniors and children $1.

Hours: Sun-Thu 10am-10pm. Fri-Sat 9am-11pm.

Location:

300 Reunion Boulevard East
