Museums

Dallas has museums covering every possible interest.
Free Museums in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex
Dallas has museums with world-class art, in-depth history, and unique exhibits. These are some of the free museums in the Metroplex.
Sid Richardson Museum
The Sid Richardson Museum resides in historic Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth. The quiet little museum houses an ever-changing selection of works from the western-themed collection of Texas oilman and philanthropist Sid W. Richardson (1891-1959). More than 50,000 people view the artworks each year.
Museums of the Fort Worth Cultural District
Spend a day in the Fort Worth Cultural District exploring museums and attending cultural events.
Interurban Railway Museum
An old-timey train car and railroad depot sit in the corner of Haggard Park near downtown Plano, housing the Interurban Railway Museum. From 1908 to 1948, the railroad depot served as a stop along the Texas Electric Railway as it ran from Denison to Dallas.
Dallas Museum of Art
Since 1903, the Dallas Museum of Art has been showing some of the finest art in the world. The collections contain sculpture, painting, and other media from sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Central and South America, Europe, and the Pacific Islands. Both ancient and contemporary styles are included.
Museum of the American Railroad
The Museum of the American Railroad at Fair Park provides an interesting step back in time to a bygone era of luxury railway travel.
Sixth Floor Museum
The Sixth Floor Museum in the Texas School Book Depository building houses a collection of artifacts, films, and impressions relating to the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth
The Kimbell is located in the Fort Worth Cultural District. Viewing the collections is free, but I can rarely resist purchasing tickets to the temporary exhibits.
Legends of the Game Museum
Located at the ballpark in Arlington, home of the Texas Rangers, the Legends of the Game Museum covers everything baseball.
