Heritage Senior Center in Irving


The Heritage Senior Center in Irving provides recreational activities, hot meals, and informative classes for senior citizens. Located just a few blocks from the South Irving light rail station and within Irving's Heritage District, the Heritage Senior Center offers low-cost activities for those 50 years and over.


The center has a fitness room, a weight room, and an aquatic center. Organized exercise classes are led by certified instructors. Most exercise classes are free with a membership to the center. Current offerings include Tai Chi, Latin Dance Exercise, Water Exercise, a fitness class for people with arthritis, and much more.

General Interest Classes:

Seniors can learn a new language, arts or crafts, such as knitting, watercolors, or woodcarving, and life skills, such as computer literacy (beginners' classes and advanced classes). Several times a week, the center brings in experts to discuss and assist in issues of particular interest to senior citizens. Recent courses have included Medicare and Medicaid benefits, an AARP driving safety course, and an investor's club.

Aquatic Center:

The aquatic center has lap lanes and a spa. Persons 50 years and older swim free at any time the pool is open. It is open to seniors only Mon-Fri 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and Monday evenings 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Public swim times are also available to bring younger family and friends to swim.


A continental breakfast is offered each morning 8 a.m.-10 a.m.

Lunch is served Mon-Fri at the Heritage Senior Center. A donation of $1 per meal is requested from those 60 and older. $4 per meal is required for those under 60 and for visitors to the center.


Irving residents 50 years and older pay $10 for an annual membership; non-residents, $30. Weight room fees range from $7.50 for one month to $50 for one year.

Getting There:

To drive there, take Highway 183 and exit OConnor Drive. Go south on OConnor for about a mile and a half and turn left on 2nd Street. Drive two blocks and the Heritage Senior Center is at the intersection of Jefferson Street and 2nd Street.

The Heritage Senior Center is a short walk from the South Irving station on the Trinity Railway Express route. Head south on Hastings Street for two blocks and turn left on 2nd Street. Walk for two blocks to the intersection of Jefferson Street and 2nd Street.

The Heritage Senior Center will provide transportation for those who have none from home to the center and back. Membership is required to use this service. Call (972) 721-2496 for more information.
