1. May 2-5: MayFest
What: Mayfest is celebrating its 41st year as a premier community festival. Festivities include an Art & Gift Market, childrens area, Mayfest Run, Special Needs Day, music, dance and entertainment on seven different stages and much more.

2. May 4: Kentucky Derby Day at Lone Star Park
On Saturday, May 4, grab your hats and join Lone Star Park for the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby to watch and wager on the first leg of the Triple Crown. Customers in attendance can enter the Kentucky Derby Best Hat Contest* for a chance to win one of two $500 grand prizes or one of three “Honorable Mention” prizes. Contestants must be age 21 or over and present in the Saddling Paddock by 3 p.m. to be considered. There will be a live music performance by Big Mouth on the Courtyard of Champions Stage from Noon to 4 p.m. Kids will enjoy bounce houses, pony rides, and a petting zoo in the Family Fun Park.When: Saturday, May 4. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. First race is at 1:35 p.m.
3. First Fridays at the Modern
The first Friday of each month, the Star-Telegram, the Modern, and Café Modern team up to bring live music and cocktails in the Museum's Grand Lobby from 5 to 8 p.m. Bring your friends and enjoy diverse live performances, cocktail selections, and dinner in Café Modern. A docent-led, 20-minute tour of the galleries is available at 6:30 p.m., regular gallery admission applies. Gallery admission is free for Modern members and Star-Telegram Press Pass holders during First Fridays at the Modern.

5. May 11: Buffalo Boogie
Buffalo Boogie is the annual big fundraiser for the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, the largest Fort Worth city park. This annual event includes a 1- mile and 5K fun walk/run and a 5K chip-timed run. You can register as an individual, family, group, or school. This is fun for the whole family -- including dogs -- with lots of door prizes, live music, balloon clown, face painters, caricature artist, exhibitors and the Nature Center Gift Shop. Participants receive a free t-shirt (first 1,000 registered), breakfast, snacks, and a wide choice of free goodies. Top three timed-run finishers in each age group will receive awards. 7. May 17-19: Wildflower! Festival
