Haunted Houses of the Dallas Fort Worth area

The Dallas area has some of the nation's largest haunted houses, including one that made it into the Guinness Book of World Records in 2006. Some of these haunted houses are too scary for the smaller kids, so know your kids' limits.

Monster Ridge Haunted House

Oct 2-4, 9-11, 16-18, 23-25, 27-31, and Nov 1. 7 p.m.-1 a.m. Over ten thousand square feet of scariness awaits in Fort Worth's newest haunted house. Monster Ridge Haunted House is located inside Ridgmar Mall, so there's no line outside. Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children under ten years. To skip the line, get a FastPass for $25. Students get a $5 discount with a valid student ID on Thursday night.

Cutting Edge Haunted House

Open Sep 13, 20, 26, and 27; Oct 3-4, 10-12, 16-19, 22-31, and Nov 1, Sun-Thu 7 p.m.-10 p.m., Fri, Sat, and Halloween night 7 p.m.-midnight. Cost Adults: $26.50 + tax Children: $22 + tax (Children = 10 and under). Buy a speed pass for another $10 per person and skip the line. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Fort Worth Fire Marshal's Fort Worth Fire Safety House. Located at 1701 E. Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth, near the intersection of I-30 and Hwy 287.

The Boneyard

Oct 10-12, 17-19, 24-31, and Nov 1. Fri and Sat open 7 p.m. to midnight, Sun-Thu open 7 p.m.-10 p.m. The 2006 Boneyard got into the Guinness Book of World Records with the largest walk through a haunted house in the world -- over a half mile of fear. Net proceeds benefit local Special Olympics. Located at 3000 E. Pioneer Parkway in Arlington. From Dallas, take I-30 west to Arlington. Exit 360 and go left. Exit Pioneer Parkway and go left. The Boneyard is about a third of a mile down.

Reindeer Manor

Sep 27, Oct 3-4, 10-11, 17-18, 24-25, 31, Nov 1, 7-8; 7 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Reindeer Manor consists of three main attractions--the Haunted House at Reindeer Manor, the 13th Street Morgue, and the Dungeon of Doom (formerly at the Arlington Museum of Art) -- and an entire festival of other doings. A pitch black maze, free movies, a free hayride, face painting, belly dancers, sword swallowers, and other entertainers, plus food, drink, and unique vendors keep scaregoers entertained. Admission costs $35 for all three attractions. Reindeer Manor is located at 410 Houston School Road in Red Oak. To get there, take I-35E south from Dallas. About four miles south of I-20, make a left on Bearcreek Road, then a right on Houston School Road.

Texas Scaregrounds

Sep 19-Nov 1. Fri and Sat, 7 p.m.-midnight. Twelve acres in Kennedale contain three haunted houses (Chaos, Nightmares, and Asylum) and the Acres of Fear haunted hay ride. Admission is $28 and includes all the attractions. Net proceeds go to local charities. The Texas Scaregrounds is located at 800 W. Kennedale Parkway (Business 287). Take I-20 to Fort Worth and exit Business 287. Go south about a half mile and follow the signs to the parking lot.
