The focal point of the new park is the Top o’ Texas Tower ride, currently under construction on the grounds and due to be completed in early March, 2013.
1. Top o' Texas Tower Ride
Do you love the State Fair of Texas as much as I do? Then get ready because the good folks at the State Fair are getting ready to debut their newest concept called
Summer Adventures in Fair Park. It's set to open up this May. The focal point of the new park is the Top o’ Texas Tower ride, currently under construction on the grounds and it's scheduled to be completed in early March, 2013.
The tower height is right at 500 feet. The duration of the ride is going to be approximately 4 minutes and 30 seconds -- including a five-second stop at the top. What a view!
One hundred passengers can ride at a time with 13 rides taking off per hour. So a long line won't be so bad if 1,300 riders can ride each hour.
The cabin travels vertically at a speed of 6.5 feet per second and rotates one foot per second.
Strange Facts: The completed tower structure will weigh approximately 1,060,000 pounds. It's made of 1,600 cubic yards of concrete. The ride has 1.4 million programmable LED lights and cost $12,000,000 to build.
I'm still not sure if Fletcher's Corny Dogs will be for sale yet. I'll let you know.
2. Other Rides
Rides include State Fair of Texas favorites like the Texas Star and the Texas Skyway plus swan boats, flume ride, kiddie swings, kiddie bumper cars, jumpin' jumbos (elephant ride), jungle twist, kiddie air show (the airplane ride), baja buggies, sky coaster, pirate ship, love bugs and of course the carousel.3. Other Attractions
In addition to the Top o' Texas Tower, you can enjoy the Children's Aquarium, Bird Encounter, World of Butterflies, Bubble House and you can really cool off on the Flow Rider. 4. Museums
These great museums are fun and educational. Check them out while you're at Fair Park.
