Thursday Night Special: BBQ Chicken Dinner all Summer Long at Bread Winners Café © Angela Patterson
It's summer in Dallas and it's hot. You want barbecue but don't want to stand over a grill in the sweltering heat. The solution? Bread Winners Thursday night BBQ Chicken Dinner special. It's a delicious way to get the meal you want without all the work. And mess.

BBQ Chicken Dinner

The chicken is a grilled, bone-in airline cut that's been basted with a zesty barbecue sauce. For clarification, the airline cut where the chicken breast is cut down to the first joint of the wing's bone -- it doesn't resemble anything you've encountered while traveling. Trust me, it's delicious.

The grilled chicken is served atop an Italian Potato Salad. What makes it Italian? There's no mustard or mayo in sight for starters. Potatoes are cooked until tender but still firm and tossed with celery and onion in a light, apple cider vinegar and honey dressing and chilled. Since I didn't grow up with a Nonnie, I have never tasted the Italian side dish. But I'm adopting it as my new favorite potato salad. It's sure to be a summer classic!

It's also served with roasted corn. My ear of corn tasted like it was picked fresh from the garden and charred to perfection with just a hint of salt. It was cooked perfectly, which is an art because you can dry out the kernels if you don't know what you're doing on the grill. I allowed my husband just one little taste because I didn't want to share it.

The BBQ Chicken Dinner Special is $14.99. It includes a roasted ear of corn, Herbed Potato Salad and a slice of Peach Pie with fresh whipped cream. It's available each Thursday (after 5 p.m.) through Labor Day.

Arrive early to guarantee you'll get the BBQ Chicken Dinner. I arrived at 7:30 p.m. and got the last one. It's popular!

Save Room for Dessert

Peach Pie and barbecue may sound like chuck wagon cookin' back at the ranch -- but you don't have to be a cowboy to enjoy this perfect combo. There is something pretty special about the way that anything made with peaches just finishes off the perfect barbecue dinner. Peach Pie is undoubtedly the perfect summer dessert.

A slice of Peach Pie with whipped cream comes with the BBQ dinner. You can purchase an additional slice (you won't want to share) for $5.99 or just purchase the whole pie for $17.99. If you've ever made pie crust before, you'll know that's a steal.

I loved the peach pie and wished my husband had ordered his own. I shared. Reluctantly. But I picked out the biggest pieces of crust to sample -- all in the name of research. It really delivered and great crust is difficult to master. I've made a million pie crusts over the years. This one really delivered and I am critical when it comes to pie crust.

My Mom will love this pie because it is not overpowered by cinnamon. As a matter of fact, there's not even any cinnamon in it. We're definitely coming back next week for a slice.

Peach Pies are available on Thursday but you can special order a whole pie and pick it up any day of the week (with 24-hour notice).
