Nothing beats the change in our Texas climate -- except for maybe the warm, spicy smells of fall treats. Cinnamon, cloves, ginger and nutmeg bring out memories from our childhood. Anything made with pumpkin is a fall/Thanksgiving treat that's almost guaranteed to bring smiles. Enjoy soon - some are limited edition flavors brought out only for the fall holiday season.
These are a few of my favorite things -- for fall.
The original Oak Cliff location of Norma's Cafe has been around since 1956 and their motto is "Eat dessert first." You can't argue with that. This slice of Norma's Carrot Cake is undoubtedly the best Carrot Cake I've ever tasted in my life. It was moist and rich -- without being too rich or sweet. I think it's one of fall's best desserts. I just don't think you can beat cream cheese frosting with finely shredded pecans. Eat it slowly so you can savor the flavor. Preorder a Carrot Cake for your Thanksgiving meal from Norma's for only $34.99. Your guests will love you for it.

I love the concept of Mini Indulgence from Seasons 52. It’s the real deal in all its decadence and glory – just in a miniature size. You can experience all the pleasure and none of the guilt. Right now I can decide which one is my favorite: the Texas Pecan Pie or the Pumpkin Pie Mini with Double Gingersnap Crust. At only $2.50 each, I’ll just have to sample both. Take some home for your own holiday gatherings. And don’t forget about the other minis like the Key Lime Pie, Old Fashioned Carrot Cake, Rocky Road, Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse, or Mocha Macchiato.
Seasons 52 is located in the Shops at Legacy, 7300 Lone Star Drive, Plano, TX 75024. 972-312-8852. Reservations are available and walk-ins welcomed. Valet parking. A second location is set to open in the fall of 2012 at Northpark Center.

I can't drink a Pumpkin Spice Latte until the temperatures are below 70 degrees. Then and only then it's time for one of my favorite fall hot beverages -- the Pumpkin Spice Latte. It's an espresso blended with cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, steamed milk and it's topped with sweetened whipped cream. If you're worried about calories, order it skinny (nonfat milk and no whipped cream) and you'll save 150 calories on a medium drink.
Pumpkin Spice Latte is available at Starbucks. Locations everywhere.
Ok, if a can of pumpkin pie filling were to get married, it should totally be to a package of cream cheese. That's one of the best hook-ups ever, in my opinion. One of my favorite desserts at The Cheesecake Factory is the Pumpkin Cheesecake. I'm a super fan of the graham cracker crust; I the crust is underrated and should be placed on a pedestal -- or better yet, a plate in front of me. This sweet-but-not-too-sweet treat can't be beat. And yes, this year I'm thankful that the Cheesecake Factory is less than five miles from my home.

Pumpkin Frozen Yogurt at Pinkberry
Here's a new twist on a traditional holiday favorite: Pumpkin Pinkberry frozen yogurt. The new seasonal flavor is delicious by itself, or with featured paired toppings, including crunchy honey graham crackers, fresh Pinkberry Swirly Whip and a dusting of cinnamon - evoking the delicious flavors of pumpkin pie. It’s the perfect balance of sweet and spice. Enjoy it now because it's a limited edition holiday flavor. Fro-Yo is usually no-fat or at least low-fat. That's the best news I've heard this holiday season.Locations in Arlington Highlands, Greenville, Preston Royal, Uptown Dallas.
