Ways to Celebrate Mother's Day in Dallas

Mother's Day is a great day to show your mom how much she matters to you and Dallas offers dozens of ways to celebrate Mother's Day. This annual holiday was begun by Julia Ward Howe in 1870, but it really took off in 1914, when President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation making it official. Traditionally, taking Mom out to brunch or dinner, sending flowers, or getting her a gift from a small book of poetry to a spa package are the most popular ways to show you care.

Mother's Day is on Sunday, May 10 in 2009.

Mother's Day at the Dallas Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum is changing out all the color beds in the gardens for their May Flowers festival, celebrating mothers for an entire month. A special Mother's Day Brunch will be in Rosine Hall with seating times at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. Reservations are required. Call (214) 515-6610. Spring tea is offered at the Dallas Arboretum in the DeGolyer Garden Cafe for $32.95 per person or $41.25 for champagne tea and reservations are required.

Swiss Avenue Historic District Mother's Day Home and Garden Tour

The Swiss Avenue Historic District Mother's Day Home and Garden Tour is on Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 10 from noon to 6 p.m. Seven historic homes and their gardens on Gaston and Swiss Avenues and Bryan Parkway will be open to ticketholders. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Kids twelve and under are free. Also, don't miss the parade at noon on Saturday and the Mother's Day Champagne Brunch on Sunday in Savage Park. The Brunch costs $20 per person and will be served by Penne Pomodoro.

Mother's Day at Taste Addison

May 10. For just $40 you get four (4) Taste Addison admission tickets, VIP seating with shaded tables and prime seating for the Bud Light Main Stage from noon-3 p.m., $30 in food coupons, wait staff to take/deliver your food order, free water and soft drinks, and a parking pass for the DART parking lot. Does it get any better?

Dining Out

The Metroplex has some of the finest restaurants anywhere. Whether your mother prefers American cuisine or food with an international flair, you're sure to find a restaurant to please her. The Adolphus Hotel offers getaway packages which include nights at the hotel and dining in the five-star French Room restaurant.

Spas

Many spas offer Mother's Day specials. In Las Colinas, the Mokara Spa at the Omni Mandalay Hotel has a nice selection of packages, as does Avalon Salon and Spa.

Flowers

Good florists are located on nearly every corner and many are independently owned. Support a local business and make your mom happy with a sunny bouquet.
