Downtown
For a long time, downtown Dallas was the business district and nothing else. Streets cleared out shortly after five. Historic buildings sat empty at night, some empty during the day. In the last decade, the city of Dallas and several developers have made a concerted effort to bring life back to downtown. Nowadays, downtown still has the businesses, but the efforts have brought in urban dwellers, more shopping, nightlife—downtown Dallas has a character all its own.

Trumpet Vine

Texas School Book Depository Sniper's Nest

Interurban Railway Museum

Old Red Courthouse
The Old Red Courthouse in downtown Dallas is a fine example of the courthouse-building fervor that swept through Texas in the 1880s and 1890s. In an imposing Romanesque style with turrets and gargoyles (actually wyverns), the courthouse dominates the area near Dealey Plaza, even though it is not as tall as many of the surrounding buildings.
